Dennis Lin
Dennis Lin
Dennis Lin is a Taiwanese-Canadian artist who graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2000. His work has been exhibited in Canada, Gunma, Miami, and London, and is held in prominent institutional collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
Lin’s practice centers on themes of pattern, material nostalgia, and belonging, with particular attention to Taiwan and to those quiet yet urgent presences that demand protection amid geopolitical tension and the passage of time. He responds to this deeply rooted inner urgency through materials such as bronze, wood, stone, incense, paper sourced from his grandfather’s paper factory, and various found objects. Often sourcing materials from the margins of obscurity or decay, Lin employs meticulous, conservation-oriented methods to examine the layered traces that objects and their histories accumulate, along with the emotional weight they carry. Spanning both traditional and contemporary sculptural vocabularies, his practice enables materials to be preserved and cared for while continuing to evolve in new forms. For Lin, art operates as both an intimate personal narrative and an act of resistance against cultural erasure—transforming matter in order to safeguard the stories and symbols that might otherwise fade from view.
